The Centre for Research into the Processes and Outcomes and Impacts of Incarceration (CRPOI) is a Canadian National Research Centre and Community bringing together researchers, community, non governmental organizations, and populations impacted by incarceration.
Our goal is to increase knowledge and the impact of knowledge related to the processes and outcomes of incarceration, and to mobilize Canadian research in this field to increase evidence-based practices in law and policy development in Canada.
Founded in 2023 by the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS), in partnership with the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, the inspiration for CRPOI originated from CAEFS former Systems Change and Transformative Voice Committee, a project of CAEFS that brought together individuals with lived experience of incarceration to envision and build solutions to pressing social problems by putting people with lived experience in leadership positions.
From this origin, CRPOI centers the expertise of impacted populations in all that we do, especially through connecting researchers and advocates to impacted populations, and by continuing to find diverse ways to support student leadership and growth.
While much of our Centre will emphasize public information sharing, we encourage you to become a member and gain access to our full community and Centre features, including accessing our Expert Advisory Roster and member collaboration space, our complete database of shared resources, and more. We are grateful to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for their funding support.
