CAEFS response to the Office of the Correctional Investigator 2024-2025 Annual Report

With this fall came the release of the Office of the Correctional Investigator’s (OCI) 2024-2025 report, which can be found here: https://oci-bec.gc.ca/en/reports/annual. The OCI report accompanies the early retirement of Dr. Ivan Zinger, who has spoken out about the government’s failure to act as his primary reason for early departure from the role.

The Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS) published an official response to the report, which underscores the urgent need for change in the Canadian Prison system – particularly responding to the OCI report’s focus on how prisons produce trauma and make existing mental health conditions worse for all, and especially for federally sentenced women and gender diverse people.
